Guys, there's a 1978 Series III 2.25 diesel for sale in Ratnapura for 12 million rupees. Owner says it's all original, engine rebuilt recently, chassis solid. Looks decent in photos but you know how Series vehicles can hide problems. For someone who wants authentic classic experience, is this reasonable price? What should I inspect carefully? Never owned Series vehicle before, heard they're much simpler than modern Defenders but also more maintenance intensive. Want honest opinions from Series owners!

Machang, 12 million for good Series III is fair if it's genuinely solid. These vehicles are becoming rare and prices going up every year. Check chassis for rust carefully - especially rear crossmember and door pillars. Engine rebuild means nothing if chassis is rotten. Series vehicles are simple but need constant attention - oil leaks, electrical issues, gear linkages. But the driving experience is pure Land Rover heritage! If you're mechanical minded and enjoy tinkering, go for it. Just budget another 3-4 lakhs for sorting out small issues. Series III with 2.25 diesel is sweet spot - more reliable than petrol, not as complex as later models.
